Maarku is a Finnish variant of Mark. Mark originates in Latin language and means "rendered to Mars, warlike". It is a form of Marcus, ultimately derived from Mars, the name of the Roman god of war. In Christianity, Mark was the author of the second Gospel and the patron saint of Venice. Mark also appears in the Celtic legend of Tristan and Isolde, as the name of the king of Cornwall.
